How to Save Your UVU Gmail Data

As of August 11, 2023, UVU has shut down the http://MY.UVU.EDU Google Workspace (formerly called Google Suite). This includes the loss of all access to your http://MY.UVU.EDU Gmail account and any files you may have stored on the http://MY.UVU.EDU Google Workspace. All future emails will be redirected to your UVU Microsoft 365 account.

Description

Learn how to save/backup your UVU Gmail account data.

⚠ If you intend to backup your entire mailbox or a majority, it is advised that you follow the steps under Download Your Google Data. If you want to save/backup individual emails, then follow the steps under Download Individual Emails to Your Computer.


Solution

Download Your Google Data

  1. Contact the Service Desk to request access to your my.uvu.edu account.

  2. Sign in to your myUVU Gmail account.

  3. Go to the download your data page. Google products that have your data are automatically selected.

    • If you don’t want to download data from a product, uncheck the box beside it.

    • If you only want to download some of your data from a product, you may have the option to select a button like All data included. You can uncheck the box next to any data you don’t want to include.

  4. At the bottom of the webpage, click on Next step and fill out the Choose file type, frequency & destination section.

  5. Click on Create export to generate your data file/backup.

    • Your data file may take hours or days to generate based on its size.

    • Once your data file has been generated, it may be downloaded to your device.

Your data file may not include changes made to your data between when you request a download and when you create your archive. Learn more about what data may not be included.

Download Individual Emails to Your Computer

  1. Sign in to your myUVU Gmail account.

  2. Open the email you wish to download.

  3. Click on the More button (three dots in a vertical line) near the top right of the message window.

    1. Select Download message to download the email in an EML format (example: myemail.eml).

To open the EML file that downloads, you will need a compatible desktop mail client/app.
